A Journey on the Rooftop
The rooftop was alive with the sound of footsteps, accompanied by the glowing tips of two cigarettes and a flickering light blue lighter. It resembled a scene from the past, but with intentional alterations, provoking curiosity about the possibilities that lay ahead.
At the western edge, a white night embraced everything, illuminating the rooftop with a constellation of radiant dots. The ethereal glow reminded me of Son Lux’s album cover, released under the Joyful Noise Recordings label. As the night unfolded, the small white dots on the roof of a house built in 1987 harmonized with the melodies of Moderat~therapy. The subsequent four tracks enveloped us in darkness and silence.
The following day brought a message, revealing a misty landscape caused by the volcanic haze from Mount Kelud. The text asked, “Are you in Yogyakarta?” Hope filled their minds, yearning for the tranquility that awaited them. Excitement surged as they shared their aspirations with friends also embarking on this journey, certain that it would be an enriching experience.
Reflecting on that moment, which occurred on February 15, 2014, at 6:25 pm, it encapsulated the essence of curiosity, the allure of exploration, and the anticipation of what lies ahead. It serves as a timeless reminder that within seemingly ordinary moments, extraordinary potential for growth and transformation resides.
