EXPECTLESS

Updated: Jun 22, 2023

Sunday, January 12, 2020, was a day that immediately transported my soul back to the old, nostalgic, cold, and foggy city as soon as the guitar intro of “Let Down” from Radiohead’s album “Ok Computer” played. It reminded me of a time when I felt free, romantic, and deeply connected. It was a moment of self-discovery and introspection.

The song itself has been described as a pattern of optimism followed by pessimism. It speaks to the longing for personal growth and the desire to break free from the repetitive and disillusioning nature of society. It acknowledges the disappointments and setbacks one might face but also hints at the possibility of finding one’s own path and flying high despite the obstacles.

In my own interpretation, “Let Down” resonates with me on a profound level. It captures the dichotomy of hope and disillusionment that exists within me. It reminds me that while life may let us down repeatedly, it is essential to maintain an optimistic outlook and continue striving for personal growth and fulfillment. This song serves as a reminder to break free from the confines of societal expectations and embrace our individuality.

About the song, “they” said :

The pattern of optimism by pessimism you will grow wings and learn to fly but you has been let down repeatedly in life thus far so one should not expect things to change for the better in the hamster wheel society in which we live.”
